I had installed Torch in the past few months for some scientific work, and did not need it anymore. The official documentation states that, for uninstalling, you just have to remove the
torch folder from your
/home, so i did, and went on.
After a recent kernel upgrade i restarted my computer, and, to my surprise, wasn’t able to log in into a graphical X environment. I tried to debug it, and after examining my
~/.xsession-errors i noticed that there was still a remaining command in the
~/.profile which tried to load a Torch-specific environment. Since the environment file was deleted, this command failed, and caused the whole login process to crash.
So my solution was to remove this line from
~/.profile and to learn that you really can’t trust official documentation, especially when it says: “Just delete”.
